RENEWAL Democrats of Zimbabwe (RDZ) has denounced MDC-T leader, Morgan Tsvangirai's alleged clinging to power for the past 16 years in clear contravention of his party's Constitution, which allows for two five-year terms.

RDZ party, a breakaway from Tendai Biti's People's Democratic Party (PDP), said Tsvangirai had failed to effect a real change in the country, even during the Government of National Unity, when the main opposition party got a chance to influence policy-making.

PDP, formerly MDC Renewal, was formed in protest to Tsvangirai's clinging to power and ultimate failure to topple the Zanu-PF regime.

Speaking at a Press conference hosted by Gweru Press Club yesterday, RDZ secretary-general, Trust Chikohora said even PDP had failed the nation by wanting to join People's First (PF), a political party he described as an imaginary institution, led by former Zanu-PF stalwarts expelled in the ruling party for fanning factionalism.

"PF is essentially Zanu-PF, we can't join a team that has people that brought the country down," Chikohora said, referring to former Zanu-PF members aligned to former Vice-President Joice Mujuru.

"We have Tsvangirai who is still staying in the government house. As who, we don't know. When the movement for change was started in 1999 the idea was to bring about change, but it's impossible when you also have a leader that defy the Constitution and lead for a good 16 years."

Chikohora said RDZ, unlike MDC-T and PDP, will contest in any election in a bid to position the party as a real force behind change.

He said his party has an open foreign policy that will re-establish "sound international relations" if elected into power in the 2018 elections.
