The Zimbabwe Media Commission has called for the mass media service providers and journalists to renew their registration certificates and accreditation cards respectively in line with the provisions of the Access to Information and Protection of Privacy Act (AIPPA).

In a statement, ZMC said fees applicable for renewal off registration certificates and accreditation were $1 500 per licence and $5 per person for accreditation.

"The renewal of registration certificates and accreditation of  of journalists should be done by December 31 2015. Penalties as provided for by Statutory Instrument 40 of 2014 will be applied to those who fail to renew their registration certificates and accreditation cards by December 31 2015," reads the notice.

"All permits to operate representative offices of foreign mass media services in terms of section 90 must be renewed before the expiry date."

ZMC said the registered mass media services owners must have paid their annual levy for the year 2014 in order to be considered for renewal of their registration and renewal of accreditation cards for journalists working under them.

It said the accreditation of journalists will start on December 7.
