Gwanda resident Bekezela Fuzwayo has accused President Robert Mugabe and some of his ministers for clandestinely surreptitiously misnaming the airport road which was supposed to be Joshua Nkomo to be Harare International Airport Road.
Fuzwayo said some mistakes which are being made by some of officers especially around President Mugabe are getting suspects.
"Mugabe is taken to specifically open the Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo Highway from Harare Airport to Harare CBD at Robert Mugabe Road," he said. "For some weird unexplained reason on opening the commemorative plaque it was deliberately misnamed as Harare International Airport Road. Certainly deliberate because someone somewhere along the process should have realised the mistake."
He said it's important to refer to history when such incidents occur.
"The push to name the Harare Airport Road, Joshua Nkomo Highway came up from the people in the Bulawayo region seeking a balance after the road from Joshua Nkomo Airport to the Bulawayo CBD was name Robert Mugabe Way as per the politics at that time," Fuzwayo said.
"As if that wasn't enough, when President Mugabe read the plaque he read it as was written and did not question the mistake. President Mugabe would have been the first to notice and question the mistake very well remembering the Southern region challenge on renaming Grey Street Robert Mugabe Way while they wanted it to be called Joshua Nkomo Way."
He said the Harare Airport Road was named after Joshua Nkomo years back and hardly do people in Harare refer to it as such. Not even the media cares to pay recognition to that.
"Would one be wrong to conclude that this attitude shows direct lack of will power to name the road after Joshua Nkomo," he said. "Kumbe ukhona okulindwe ukuthi ibizwe ngaye."
