2016 National budget has nothing for workers

The Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions (ZCTU) has said it was shocked by the mediocrity of the 2016 National Budget presented by the Finance Minister, Patrick Chinamasa which it said has nothing for the working people.

ZCTU acting Secretary General, Enock MahariIn said in fact, the Minister gloats about firing of Ziscosteel workers using the three months notice period.

"What is more worrying is that the budget treat our situation as business as usual yet the country is burning. It makes the same mistake as last year of pegging unrealistic growth projections and focuses on arrears clearance and recurrent expenditure. It does not have an explicit developmental plan," he said.

"ZCTU believes the budget fails to meet the following: Clarity and credibility, alignment with medium-term priorities of the government .eg ZIMASSET, efficacy of capital budgeting framework, justification of the allocations and quality of proposed management and monitoring of the plan."
