A youth leader and Hurungwe West ward chairperson of the Movement for Democratic Change led by Morgan Tsvangirai, Admire Maraka, was allegedly kidnapped early Monday morning by suspected Zanu-PF youths who assaulted him but he managed to escape.
One of the suspects is reportedly in police custody and is expected to appear in court on Wednesday.
Police in Hurungwe were not responding to calls from Studio 7.
However, narrating his ordeal, Maraka told Studio 7 that when he was allegedly abducted he was informed that he was being disciplined for shunning Zanu-PF meetings and rallies.
"I was abducted from my home by a group of youth who said they had been sent by (name withheld) at around 1 am. They then went with me and in the process assaulting me," he said.
Maraka said he managed to escape and sought refuge in the mountains while his wife went to report the matter to a local police station.
Police, he said, swiftly responded and arrested one of the suspects.
"I went to hide at my brother's shop until the police came and asked me to get a doctor's report. I was injured on my feet and buttocks," he said.
He claimed that his abductors had threatened to kill him.
Hurungwe West has been in political turmoil following the expulsion from Zanu-PF of former legislator, Themba Mliswa.
Mliswa contested a by-election held in June and narrowly lost to Keith Guzah in a vote allegedly fraught with electoral irregularities.
