Mugabe's ministers attain PhDs from South Africa

INFORMATION, Media and Broadcasting Services Minister Christopher Mushowe and his Tourism and Hospitality counterpart Walter Mzembi graduated with PhDs from the Aldersgate University College at a ceremony held at the University Of South Africa main campus here yesterday evening.

Harare Provincial Affairs Minister Miriam Chikukwa graduated with a Masters in Business Administration.

Minister Mushowe who has held a number of briefs in the government since Independence graduated with a Doctor of Philosophy in Peace and Conflict Management adding another accolade to his already colourful academic achievements.

His PhD research topic reads, "The impact of the responsibility to protect (R2P) doctrine on African peace and security architecture: A hermeneutical reading of the Libyan Conflict"

Minister Mushowe is also studying towards another PhD in Ethics Leadership and Governance with the University of KwaZulu Natal.

He holds Masters Degrees in Peace Leadership and Governance from the Africa University, Public Administration and International Relations both from the University of Zimbabwe and Business Administration from Leicester University in the United Kingdom

Minister Mushowe said his PhD research topic exposed western countries that come under the false banner of deeding human rights yet thefr actual intentions are to loot natural resources from African and other weaker countries.

Minister Mzembi on the other hand graduated with a PhD in Business Administration and his research topic read, "An exploratory study of conservation management in Zimbabwe: A governance perspective."

Minister Mzembi said his study interrogates the involvement of communities in conservation which has been discounted over the years despite the government having introduced the CAMPFIRE model

Minister Chikukwa said she was inspired to study by President Mugabe and colleagues in the ruling Zanu-PF party and government

Former Deputy Minister Munacho Mutezo graduated with a PhD in Business Administration and his topic read, Analysing rural entrepreneurship by the rural poor in Zimbabwe.

Also graduating with PhDs were former ZBC news anchor Nanette Sflukhuni and Godfrey Mawarura, a director at one of the parastatals.
