Harare City Council is reportedly planning to arrest the passengers who board public transport at undesignated points in a and around the city.

This was revealed by the Harare Residents Trust.

"Harare City Council is planning on arresting passengers that board public transport at undesignated points in and around the city. this is a progressive decision," said the trust. "Kombis have been accused of using illegal bus stops, causing havoc at mushikashika (illegal pick up points). Residents are concerned as well with the way the Municipal police pounce on Kombis using spikes, some have highlighted that this puts the lives of the passengers at risk in the event that the Kombi over turns."

The trust said the HRT has also noted with concern how the Kombis flee from these illegal pick up points when municipal police pounce on them exposing pedestrians to danger.

"There have been instances were pedestrians have been run over, some are injured and some lose their lives. Lets work together to avoid the loss of lives in our city," said the trust.

Tafadzwa George Goliati said, "We are going to challenge the proposed new by laws which we feel is anti people and the council must first of all put their house in order and concentrate on serious issues like providing roads, water, toilets , lights, proper bus termini and mass transport solutions."
