A CROSS border truck driver ran amok and viciously attacked a Dangamvura man for allegedly bedding his wife after he got wind that his house was now a love nest each time he travelled on duty.

Dexter Bengula was beaten to a bloody pulp and left for dead following last week's attack by Pearson Hari, in an incident that rang alarm bells in the high-density suburb's P section.

Bengula, who passed out during the attack was immediately ferried to Mutare Provincial Hospital, where he is nursing wounds in Male Ward B.

The woman at the centre of this alleged promiscuous love triangle is Rhoda Mangaiso.

All hell broke loose when Hari returned home from work and was told by his relatives that each time he goes away his wife was entertaining Bengula at his house – Number P7B Dangamvura.

"He came back with a heavy heart and confronted his wife about the illicit affair. He did not get a satisfactory answer and then summoned Bengula who lives nearby to come and clear the air.

"When Bengula got into the house, a furious Hari locked the gate from inside. All hell broke loose. Dexter was heavily beaten and was hit with an iron bar on the head. He bled profusely and passed out," said a neighbour who witnessed the incident.

Hari is alleged to have left soon after the assault and his wife had to arrange transport to ferry Bengula to hospital.

"Moments later Rhoda came back and packed her belongings. As we speak Dexter is admitted in hospital," said the neighbour.

Police confirmed on Tuesday that a report had been lodged at Dangamvura Police Station and investigations were in progress.

In a telephone interview last Monday from his hospital bed, Bengula said he was lucky to be alive.

He insisted that he was not in love with Hari's wife whom she described as his friend.

"I am a victim of lies because I was not in love with his wife. Right now I am in bad shape for crimes I did not commit. He hit me with an iron bar on the eye and I fainted. I am in great pain and as I speak I am bleeding from the nose," he said.

Efforts to contact Mangaiso on her mobile phone were fruitless as she avoided answering calls.

Her husband, Hari was not available either.
