A Zanu PF youth Member Fidelis Fengu who was recently convicted of extortion has admitted that he was once a corruption culprit who has since repented and asked God for forgiveness.
"I was once a corruption practitioner and have since repented and asked God to forgive me," said Fengu.
"That being said, Zimbabwe needs a National Economic Intelligence unit that is totally divorced from Central Intelligence Organisation (CIO) yet still operating under the President."
He said this unit can then house the Anti- corruption , the state procurement board, a parastatal monitoring department , financial intelligence and move the economic desk from CIO to this new entity.
"This entity must have its own Director General who reports to the President, here I would propose David Coltart for the post. David has no buddies in government and will treat everyone like a stranger, he is a lawyer, a former cop and politician. He may have his weaknesses but when it comes to fighting corruption he might be the best," he said.
"The corruption levels in this country are high and sophisticated. Corruption is a bigger national security threat than MDC and other agents of regime change."
Fengu said corruption is a threat to His Excellency President Robert Mugabe's legacy and our response to corruption as a nation will make or break this nation.
