Former Zanu-PF Senator dies

Zanu-PF Central Committee member and former legislator Jefta Chindanya has died.
He was 78.
Chindanya, who was declared a liberation war hero, died on Monday after a long battle with diabetes.
He will be buried today at Nemauku Village in Zaka.
In a letter addressed to the Secretary to the President and Cabinet, Dr Misheck Sibanda, zanu-pf Secretary for Administration Dr Ignatius Chombo said: "His Excellency, the President and First Secretary of zanu-pf Mugabe, has conferred a liberation hero status on Central Committee member, the late Jefta Johnson Chindanya, who died on 7 December 2015."
Chindanya began his political career as a youth activist by joining different political parties.
Between 1957 and 1959 he was an active member of the ANC youth wing and joined the NDP as a youth activist from 1960 to 1961.
Chindanya became a member of the ZAPU youth wing and joined Zanu at its formation in 1963.
In December 1994 he was elected into the Central Committee and in 2005 he was elected the Senator for Zaka-Chiredzi.
In 2009 he joined the National Consultative Assembly until the time of his death.
Chindanya served as a teacher from 1952 to 1959 and was promoted to district education officer in 1985.
Chindanya is survived by his wife, six children, 13 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Mourners are gathered at No. 16 Citrus Avenue, Northleigh, Masvingo.
