President Robert Mugabe has been accused of supporting the whites at independence which might have resulted in him being offered a free way to rule the country ahead of PF Zapu leader the late Joshua Nkomo who was more popular than him.

Former ZIipra war veteran Rasha Ndlovu said this was exposed by Vice President Emmerson Mnangagwa's sensational remarks that Nkomo lost the 1980 general elections to Mugabe because he represented interests of the white minority.

He said the discussion Mnangagwa and Mugabe had with Ian Smith talking about Nkomo shows that they were in good books.

Ndlovu said this confirmed that Mugabe conspired with Rhodesia to get into power to frustrate Nkomo and his people.

He said this was because Nkomo was more radical on the issue of land than Mugabe and whites did not favour him.

Mnangagwa, in a recent interview with the New African magazine, claimed the former late Rhodesian Prime Minister Ian Smith confided to him and Mugabe that Nkomo and Zanu founder, Ndabaningi Sithole lost the elections because they did not represent the interests of the black majority.

Nkomo and Sithole participated in the elections under PF Zapu and Zanu Ndonga tickets respectively and lost to Mugabe, in elections where they alleged electoral fraud.
