Harare council demolish hundreds of houses in Budiriro

The Harare City Council has demolished hundreds of houses in Budiriro opposite High-Glen Shopping Mall, leaving scores of people homeless.
The residents questioned the timing of the demolition and blamed the responsible authorities for not giving them a warning.
Some of the houses were razed down during the absence of the owners, and property in the houses was destroyed in the process.
Some said the City of Harare assisted them in developing the area like in the connection of water but now they say the structures are illegal.
Contacted for comment, Harare City Council Spokesperson, Dorothy Mavolwane, said the people had constructed their homes in areas earmarked for a clinic and school.
Mavolwane also said they had also given a 48 hour notice to the residents.
Observers however noted that although the demolition could be justified but timing of the event is questionable as it is now rain season.
