THE Judicial Service Commission has promoted and redeployed three magistrates in Matabeleland North Province incorporating Bulawayo, as part of a routine exercise to strengthen its operations.

The transfers have already been effected, chief magistrate Mishrod Guvamombe said. Sharon Rosemani, who was resident magistrate for Victoria Falls magistrates' court, has been redeployed to Hwange courts.

Making her way to the Victoria Falls magistrates' courts is Lindiwe Maphosa, who was provincial magistrate at Hwange courts and has been promoted to resident magistrate at the resort town's station. Rangarirai Priviledge Gakanje has been deployed to the Victoria Falls magistrates' court from Bulawayo where she was sworn in, in June this year.

Guvamombe said the movements are meant to strengthen the Victoria Falls court which is growing fast in terms of court size and litigation cases. "This is part of our routine changes to strengthen our operations," he told The Chronicle in a telephone interview.

"Gakanje is fresh from training and has been deployed to Victoria Falls while Rosemani is moving to Hwange as an ordinary magistrate.

"Maphosa is assuming more responsibility because she is coming to run the Victoria Falls court. Victoria Falls court is growing in terms of size and litigation cases therefore we decided we need to add a hand to make sure we attend to all matters," said the chief magistrate.

Maphosa was sworn in about eight years ago after finishing training at the Judicial Staff College before serving as a magistrate at the Bulawayo magistrates' courts housed at Tredgold and Western Commonage.

She was then transferred to Hwange where she was stationed until this month when she moved to Victoria Falls. The Victoria Falls station is one of the 30 courts which JSC is building countrywide. In the province, Nkayi was commissioned two months ago while Lupane is yet to be completed.

Guvamombe said the new look Victoria Falls court will be officially opened soon on a date to be advised. "As for the new building it's work in progress and we will advise on when it will be opened," he said.

The new building has two courtrooms one of them with victim friendly equipment. There will be enough office space for the two magistrates and other court officials.
