A BUHERA man has appeared in court for allegedly taking advice from a traditional healer to rape his 15-year-old sister to cure a wound that was taking long to heal, State media reports.
The man (23) from Vengesa Village under Chief Nyashanu, raped his sister four years ago and the matter came to light when the girl bared it all to her cousin in Harare early this year.
He was stung by a scorpion and the wound was taking time to heal, prompting him to seek advice from a healer. The girl, whose parents died long back, broke into tears as she saw a family photograph showing her late parents and their children including herself and the suspected rapist. She spent the whole night in tears prompting the cousin to ask her. She later revealed the abuse to the cousin before a police report was made.
The man pleaded not guilty to the rape charges when the trial opened last week before Rusape regional magistrate Mr Hosea Mujaya. He admitted being intimate with his sister but argued that it was consensual.
