Imposed fines exposes a desperate govt

A seasoned journalist Methuseli Moyo has said the recent imposed traffic fines by the government shows that the government is seriously desperate and un popular and those are measures to keep citizens fearful.
This comes after the government through finance minister Patrick Chinamasa introduced new fines for motorist such as $100 fine for crossing a red robot and some jail terms for motorist who drive their vehicles without spare wheels.
"THE newly-gazetted traffic offences and fines is yet another indicator of a desperate and unpopular government that wants to keep citizens fearful, even during festive seasons," he said.
"The fact that the government has made an exemption for foreign-registered vehicles for the new laws is admission that the laws are unreasonable and unique to Zimbabwe, and just meant to extort and intimidate people."
He asked why would not having a spare wheel or spanner be a crime?
"Most accidents in Zimbabwe are caused by the poor state of roads, corruption in the issuance of drivers' licenses, and of course corruption on the roads by the police. Those are the issues that need to be addressed first. Over-regulation will simply lead to more corruption and more cash for the VID officers and cops and more accidents. Sadly, our country is lead by clueless old men and women whose only objective is to get rich and richer," he said.
