President Robert Mugabe has paid tribute to Zimbabweans for their resilience despite the sanctions induced hardships.

Mugabe was speaking at State House in Harare today at a Christmas party attended by senior Zanu PF and government officials, as well as the top brass from the military.

He said 2015 was an eventful year with the holding of the ruling party's annual national people's conference in Victoria Falls and the visit to Zimbabwe by the Chinese leader, Mr Xi Jinping, among many other developments.

He added that all these developments demonstrate the essence of unity in both the party and government.

The two vice presidents, Emmerson Mnangagwa and Phelekezela Mphoko both spoke highly of Mugabe, describing his as an icon, liberator and a champion of the oppressed, adding that everybody in the party, government and in the diplomatic mission are proud to work with the president.

They said Mugabe is a visionary and a man of integrity as evidenced by his election to lead the African Union (AU) and the regional grouping, SADC.
