Rutenga accident, six victims buried

Six of the seven people who died in the Masvingo-Beitbridge highway accident that occurred on Saturday morning near Rutenga, have been buried in Mutare.
The accident victims: Shovai Gwezu, Batsirai Chidzikwe, Mollen Potsekayi, Charles Mapfumo, Tania Mhatisa and Catherine Murigwa, were informal sector traders from Dangamvura and Chikanga in the Eastern border town.
A somber atmospheres engulfed Dangamvura - Chikanga constituency when the bodies of the six accident victims were being collected at a funeral parlour in Mutare.
Fellow informal traders were still trying to come to terms with the tragedy.
It was an emotional experience for Mutare residents witnessing the funeral procession ferrying the six to their final resting places.
In his send off speech, Dangamvura-Chikanga legislator, Cde Esau Mupfumi called on the government to expedite the widening or dualisation of the Harare-Beitbridge and Chirundu highways as the road network has claimed many innocent lives.
The accident occurred in the early hours of Saturday when a Munenzva bus, which was travelling from Beitbridge towards Masvingo veered off the road and rammed into a trailer towed by a Mercedes Benz omnibus.
Six people died on the spot while the 7th died on admission at Mwenezi hospital.
