A commuter omnibus driver was sentenced to six months in prison for assaulting a fellow motorist using a spanner for  blocking his way.

Biton Kamisa (30) of Western Triangle, Highfield, appeared before Mbare magistrate Ms Kudzai Zihove charged with assault.

Ms Zihove sentenced Kamisa to nine months behind bars.

She, however, suspended three months of the sentence for five years, leaving Kamisa to serve six months effective.

In assessing sentence, Ms Zihove considered that Kamisa was a first offender and a family man.

However, against him, she considered that Kamisa acted violently towards Vincent Chikowore by assaulting him using a weapon and injuring him in the process.

The prosecutor Ms Yvonne Gurira proved that on October 23, Chikowore was driving along Burombo Road in Machipisa when Kamisa blocked his way.

Kamisa was driving a commuter omnibus.

Chikowore managed to overtake Kamisa who followed him at high speed.

When the two reached OK Machipisa robots, Kamisa disembarked from the commuter omnibus and ran towards Chikowore.

Upon arrival at Chikowore's car, Kamisa hit him with a spanner on both hands, leaving him with deep cuts.

The matter was reported to the police leading to Kamisa's arrest.
