Over 300 families who have been displaced from the Marange Diamond Field to ARDA Transau, are set to benefit from a US$100 million infrastructure development programme by a diamond mining company ANJIN, ZBC News reported on Sunday.
The company, which is a joint venture operation between Zimbabwe Mining Development Corporation( ZMDC) and a Chinese investment company, has built 474 houses, a furnished secondary and primary school as well as a clinic, all with tap water.
Speaking during a tour of the facility, Manicaland Governor and Resident Minister, Chris Mushohwe, said the new infrastructure is testimony of the great relationship that exists between the Chinese and Zimbabwe governments.
Mushowe challenged other mining companies in the area to increase support to the displaced families.
Anque Foreign Economic Construction Group Director, Mr. Bing Li, whose company formed a diamond mining company ANJIN with the Zimbabwean government, said the Chinese people will always support Zimbabwe's quest for development.
The facility tour coincided with the holding of a free medical clinic by a visiting team of 10 Chinese doctors and a donation of food hampers that will be given to the resettled families until ANJIN's irrigation scheme which is currently underway has been completed
