ZIMRA urged tighten security at borders

Vice President Joice Mujuru has implored the Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (ZMRA) to devise ways of tightening security at the country's borders so that Zimbabwe is not used as a channel for international economic crimes, ZBC reported on Sunday.

Mujuru said this during celebrations to mark the ZIMRA's 10th anniversary and launch of the Taxpayer Appreciation Day.

She said ZIMRA is the country's gatekeeper and should therefore ensure that appropriate measures to fight international trade crime are enforced at the country's ports of entry and exit.

Mujuru commended ZIMRA for laying a firm foundation for the country's sustainable economic development.

She added that the global economic recession and donor fatigue has been a wakeup call for most African countries, which are now realising that taxation is a critical element in sustaining economies.

Vice President Mujuru urged captains of industry to work towards increasing capacity utilisation and business growth, saying big businesses generate more tax and enhance revenue collections.

ZIMRA Commissioner General, Mr Geshom Pasi pledged the authority's commitment to raising revenue for the country which in turn will help in reducing budget deficits that fuel inflation.
