17-year-old boy convicted of selling mbanje

A 17-year-old boy will perform 480 hours of community service after he was convicted of selling mbanje.
Innocent Vanhuhavawone of Milton Park, Harare, was sentenced to a year in prison for illegally possessing the drug.
However, Harare magistrate Mr Tendai Mahwe suspended four months of the sentence for five years on condition that he does not commit a similar offence.
The remaining eight months were also set aside on condition that he performs 480 hours of community service at Belvedere Clinic.
He pleaded guilty to the charge.
The court heard that on December 30 last year at round 2pm detectives from CID Drugs Section received information that Vanhuhavawone was in possession of dangerous drugs.
Acting on the information detectives proceeded to Milton Park where they saw Vanhuhavawone selling the drug through the precast wall.
They approached him while he was busy trading the illicit drug.
He was found in possession of eight sachets of mbanje.
