Posing as a Good Samaritan, a Harare commuter omnibus driver robbed and raped a woman he had escorted to her destination on New Year's Eve.
Gabriel Mwali (23) is alleged to have committed the offence in Caledonia on New Year's Eve.
The victim who was from South Africa indicated to other passengers that she was not familiar with her bus stop.
Mwali, who was a passenger in the same vehicle, offered to assist her.
When they reached the bus station, Mwali escorted her out and carried her bags.
He then led her to a secluded place, where he raped her and robbed her of cash and goods worth R5 000.
Mwali, who is being represented by Arthur Roy Mabhena, was not asked to plead when he appeared before magistrate Elijah Makomo yesterday.
