A social and political commentator Mlungisi Dube has blamed the government's failure to pay civil servants salaries in time on the array of funds abuse by the rung Zanu PF government among them President Robert Mugabe's trips.

Mugabe has had numerous trips abroad which critiques claim brings nothing to benefit the ordinary citizens.

"If you were wondering why government failed to pay December 2015 salaries? This is the answer at a glance (all figures in United States dollars); (50 million - Mugabe's trips plus $5 million- Zanu PF conference plus $4 million - Mphoko' house plus $250 000 Mphoko's Rainbow bill) equalls $59,250,000; $59 million right," Dube said.

"Divide that by $500 being average monthly salary for a civil servant you get $118,500.118 thousand being half of the civil service including ghost workers; (home affairs) ZRP, ministry of health plus some 5 other small ministries."

He said ministries could have been paid before Christmas had the government had right priorities.
