Heal Zimbabwe has taken government of Zimbabwe to court over misconduct portrayed by members of the police force and other security forces.

According to the trust's memorandum the matter will be heard at the Constitutional Court where Heal Zimbabwe Director, Rashid Mahiya is challenging the Government to set up mechanisms to receive complaints on the misconduct of police officers and other members of the security sector.

"It is now close to 3 years since the country adopted the new Constitution and to date nothing has been done in terms of setting up the important mechanism," reads the memo.

"Section 210 of the Zimbabwean Constitution stipulates that "an Act of Parliament must provide an effective and independent mechanism for receiving and investigating complaints from members of the public about misconduct on the part of members of the security services, and for remedying any harm caused by such misconduct".

Heal Zimbabwe said the demand is also necessitated by increased cases of brutality by the police against innocent civilians and human rights defenders.

The matter will be heard on Wednesday 13.
