An award-winning SuperSport presenter has made a brief appearance in the Johannesburg Magistrate's Court for allegedly exposing his genitals and masturbating before a 15-year-old boy.
The Rugby World Cup presenter, Peter Davies, was taken off air on Wednesday following a court appearance for a criminal offence.
Davies was the channel's second anchor to be removed in as many months.
Newspaper reports suggested he allegedly exposed his genitals and masturbated in front of a 15-year-old boy.
The complainant, a local high school pupil, apparently entered a sauna at the gym, where he found the accused and another man conversing. The boy told the police that the latter left the room.
It is alleged that the 46-year-old man then opened his legs and exposed his genitals to the minor. The accused, according to information in possession of the investigators, later followed the complainant to the shower.
The presenter allegedly ran his penis against the shower glass in a bid to grab the boy's attention. He allegedly also knocked on the shower door, before masturbating in his full view.
SuperSport's communications manager Clinton van der Berg said, "We saw Peter late yesterday [Wednesday], he came into the office and he spoke to the senior production manager. And he confirmed [that] he appeared in court earlier on criminal charges and we agreed mutually to remove him pending the outcome of the case."
A few days before the 2011 Rugby World Cup started SuperSport parted ways with presenter Darren Scott after he used the k-word repeatedly while hurling insults at a black colleague.
