A ONE-YEAR-OLD Chegutu baby boy was dug out of a Blair toilet alive after being thrown into the pit by his 10-year-old cousin.

The boy alleges he committed the offence at the behest of the baby's mother. The incident occurred at Chikanga Farm in Chegutu on Tuesday afternoon when Abraham Hwami (14-months-old) was taken to the farm by Partson Hwami (10).

He had been sent to the farm to collect some mealie-meal. On his way back, the boy dropped the baby in a Blair toilet before going home as if nothing had happened.

Mashonaland West provincial police spokesperson Inspector Clemence Mabgweazara, confirmed the incident.

"We are handling a case in which a one-year-old baby was dumped in a Blair toilet and we are now investigating allegations by the 10-year-old boy that he was instructed by the mother to do it before she left," he said.

On the fateful day, the boy's mother, Anna Jokoniya (age not given) of 1815 Waverly, Kadoma, left the toddler with her parents at Cohleinor Farm.

Later that day, the toddler's cousin was sent to collect mealie meal at Chikanga Farm where the father, Dzingai Hwami lives. He reportedly took the baby with him.

Dzingai Hwami and the boy's mother Jokoniya are now divorced. The boy's father then followed to his in-laws to see his son and discovered that he was missing.

Further inquiry led the boy to confess that he had thrown the baby in a blair toilet at Chikanga Farm.

"The boy confessed that he had dumped baby in a blair toilet prompting villagers to gather and dig him out. Fortunately he was still alive and without any injuries.

"We are now looking for Anna Jokoniya so that she can help us in our investigations," he said.
