The number of children being run over by vehicles has increased in a sad development that has been attributed to negligence.
Police revealed that over the past month alone, 13 children were killed in such accidents.
"It is disheartening to note that in some cases, minors run over by vehicles were crossing roads with guardians while in some instances they were alone," noted National police spokesperson, Senior Assistant Commissioner Charity Charamba.
She added that there have been seven cases where children were run over as vehicles reversed at residences, in a clear case where motorists are not checking around and under vehicles before starting them.
Meanwhile, the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) revealed that 245 vehicles have been impounded in the blitz on unregistered vehicles code named 'Kwete Mushikashika.'
The drivers of the vehicles were arrested while picking up passengers at undesignated points and driving against traffic, among other offences.
