12 children run over by cars

POLICE say 12 children were run over by cars across the country between December last year and this month.
The drivers face culpable homicide charges and investigations are underway.
Some of the children were killed as they crossed roads.
Others were knocked down while playing at home. Speeding and negligence by both drivers and parents have been cited as having caused the deaths.
The children are aged between 16 months and five years.
Chief police spokesperson Senior Assistant Commissioner Charity Charamba said: "These cases were recorded between December 1, 2015 and January 11 this year. We are concerned with such cases."
In one of the incidents, Snr Asst Comm Charamba said a 16-month-old baby was knocked down by a neighbour who was reversing his vehicle at Chikurubi Maximum Prison.
A two-year-old was killed by a vehicle near the 44km peg along the Chegutu-Chinhoyi Road.
"In Kambuzuma, a three-year-old was knocked down by a motorist while crossing the road at the intersection of Kambuzuma and Insiza roads," she said.
A two-year-old died in Chipinge after a run over by a visitor's car while an 18 month old was killed by a car along Birchenough and Mount Selinda Roads.
In Bulawayo, a five-year-old was killed in Hillside while crossing a road.
An 18 month old baby was killed while playing on the road while a 22- month-old baby was run over by a visitor's car while playing at home.
"We also recorded another case in Banket, where a two-year-old baby who was playing near the gate was knocked down by a neighbour. Another three-year-old baby was knocked down by a car at a gate to the Chinese Gardens in Milton Park," she said.
A five-year-old was also hit by a car in Marondera while crossing the road.
Another was killed in Hopley.
In Harare's Highfield suburb, a 16-month-old baby was knocked down by a neighbour who was reversing his car.
