Harare Residents Trust has accused Local Government Minister Saviour Kasukuwere for failing to provide solution to the housing problems currently affecting Zimbabwean citizens in urban areas but only focusing on blaming the cooperatives for clandestine stealing from the poor.
"The Minister of Local Government, Saviour Kasukuwere recently announced that Housing Cooperatives should be banned, but as a Government Minister,. he forgot to explain how housing delivery would be dealt with going forwards, besides accusing housing cooperative leadership of regularly stealing from the poor," said the trust. "Questions of housing delivery are sensitive to the residents and they have to be handled with a lot of wisdom and sensitivity. Stakeholders including the Government have to sit down and brainstorm and plan how to handle issues of housing in urban local authorities, before making unilateral decisions."
Kasukuwere recently rapped housing cooperatives for swindling unsuspecting residents of their money in the pretext of helping them secure houses.
