Mutare Town Clerk, Obert Muzavazi has resigned following mounting pressure from rate payers who last week staged a peaceful demonstration demanding the entire city management to resign.
Mr Steanard Mapurisa is now the Acting Town Clerk with immediate effect.
"A special council meeting convened this Wednesday afternoon accepted Muzavazi's resignation," confirmed Councillor Tatenda Nhamharare, who is the Mayor of Mutare.
Turning to the special audit report, Councillor Nhamarare said various committees are studying the special audit report, adding that they are taking the process seriously.
The local government audit report presented to the Mayor by the Minister of Local Government, Public Works and National Housing Saviour Kasukuwere implicated a number of top officials for allegedly paying themselves hefty salaries.
