Zimbabwe and South Africa have signed a bilateral agreement on transport related matters to allow the two countries to share policies and expertise as well as work together in the area of infrastructure development.
The agreement was signed by the Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Development Dr Joram Gumbo and his South African counterpart Ms Dipuo Peters in the resort town of Victoria Falls.
The agreement was signed to ensure that people in both countries can benefit from the infrastructure and services that will be established and covers the entire transport sector.
According to South African Minister of Transport, Ms Dipuo Peters, the agreement is also meant to solidify the bilateral relations and each country will meet its own financial obligations to ensure that all the necessary infrastructure required is put in place while the users will also contribute towards its running and maintenance.
Dr Gumbo says government is commencing work at the Beitbridge Border Post to ease the movement of people and goods between the two countries.
Zimbabwe and its southern neighbour are connected by air, rail and road transport systems with the Beitbridge Border Post being the busiest in the southern African region through which other countries transport their goods to South Africa.
