A 35-YEAR-OLD Plumtree man will spend the next six months in prison after he pushed his wife into a barbed wire causing her serious injuries as punishment for accompanying her younger sister to the bus stop in the middle of the night.
Mthandazo Dube of George Silundika area first struck his wife Sifiso Dlodlo with an iron bar all over the body before pushing her into the barbed wire.
The court heard that Dlodlo's younger sister, Siluleko Ngwenya had visited her sister's house in Plumtree and left around 8pm to board public transport. Dlodlo asked one of her neighbour's to accompany her and they escorted Ngwenya to the bus stop.
Dube followed, armed with an iron bar and attacked his wife. Dube was convicted on his own plea of guilty to physical abuse by Plumtree magistrate Mr Gideon Ruvetsa. He was sentenced to nine months imprisonment of which three months were suspended for five years on condition that he does not within that period commit an offence of the same nature.
In his mitigation Dube told the court that he attacked his wife out of anger.
"I tried to tell my wife that it was late and it was unsafe for her to go out of the house but she did not listen to me. I tried to reason with her but she was rude and she disrespected me in front of her sister and our neighbour. This pissed me off but it was not my intention to cause her any injuries," said Dube.
Prosecuting, Rose Sibanda said Dube attacked his wife on 25 January.
