Zanu PF Secretary for Science and Technology Professor Jonathan Moyo has quickly leapt onto fellow politburo member Obert Mpofu's defence for saying not a single person in Matabeleland has the qualities to be President.

Mpofu, told a Matabeleland North Provincial Co-ordinating Committee meeting on Saturday in Lupane that he was fed up with top officials whose names he did not mention, whom he said were appointed to help the President execute his duties but were now angling to dethrone him.

"People from this region have no ambition to be President. No one has the qualities to be President in this region and we are shocked that some people are saying so and so should replace the President because he is from this tribe," said Mpofu.

However, Moyo who also attended the meeting claimed that Mpofu's statement is being misinterpreted.

"He did not say people from the region lack the qualities but that they've no chance & cited JNM Nkomo as example!

"You are distorting him. He said nobody from Matabeleland is seeking the presidency because it's a fat chance!" wrote Moyo on his twitter account this morning.

He had been asked by his followers regard the statement.

Mathews Dera ‏@matdera had asked Moyo: @ProfJNMoyo It is unfair on us in Matebeleland for one to say that. I am a Bulawayo man and aiming 4 presidency yet u claim that!
