The Zimbabwe National Liberation War Veterans Association (ZNLWVA) has elected Mandi Chimene as its national chairperson of the organisation.
Chimene, who is also the Minister of State for Manicaland Provincial Affairs, will be deputised by George Mafa.
The ZNLWVA held a press conference in Harare and emphasised the need for the association to return to its thrust of empowering and uniting its members, as opposed to wasting time on issues to do with the country's leadership.
The association's Secretary for Legal Affairs, Makambe Thomas Mashoko, said the appointments are on an interim basis.
"Chimene will be deputised by George Mafa, while the Deputy Secretary General,Michael Mapfumo has been elevated to the post of Secretary General," he said.
The appointments follow the vote of no confidence on the association's National Chairman Christopher Mutsvangwa, Vice Chairman Headman Moyo, Secretary General Victor Matemadanda and Monica Mutsvangwa on Friday.
Disrespecting President Robert Mugabe by not following his directive to unite and restructure the war veterans association was the reason for the vote of no confidence passed on the executive.
