A Harare man is battling for his life at Parirenyatwa Hospital after he was stabbed in the head by his wife for failing to maintain their two-month-old baby, the court heard yesterday.
Sarudzai Shonhiwa appeared in court facing one count of attempted murder and assault.
Magistrate Mr Elijah Makomo denied her bail and ordered her to approach the High Court.
Allegations are that on Sunday, February 21, at around 10pm at Tobela Night Club in Epworth, Shonhiwa approached Fidelis Munjodzi who was seated in a taxi with his friend.
The court heard that Shonhiwa started accusing Munjodzi of not taking care of their two-month- old baby.
Prosecutor Mr Peter Kachirika alleged that Shonhiwa pulled Munjodzi out of the taxi.
He tried to escape, but Shonhiwa picked up a broken empty beer bottle and stabbed him on the head resulting in him sustaining a deep cut.
The court heard that Munjodzi was rushed to Parirenyatwa Hospital where he is battling for his life.
In the second charge of assault it is alleged that on the same day at Overspill Shopping Centre Shonhiwa stabbed Thulani Ncube with a broken beer bottle at the height of a heated argument.
Meanwhile, A Harare woman is seeking protection from her former husband whom she alleges is threatening to kill her for dumping him.
Polina Sithole told Harare Civil Court magistrate Mrs Marehwanazvo Gofa last Friday that her ex-husband, Admire Chivhunga chased her out of their matrimonial home but is stalking and abusing her.
Sithole, who was seeking a protection order against Chivhunga, told the court that she wants him barred from visiting her workplace because he was causing havoc.
"We are no longer living together; he has chased me away from our matrimonial house," she said.
"He has threatened to kill me and we are no longer on speaking terms because I dumped him. He also stalks me and now I am afraid of him," added Sithole.
Chivhunga denied the allegations and told the court that he was shocked with her application as Sithole was with him two days earlier.
"I am actually shocked with her application because she was at my house last night and we slept together," he said.
Chivhunga, however, told the court that he was not opposed to Sithole's application since he would not suffer any prejudice.
Mrs Gofa ordered Chivhunga to keep peace with Sithole and refrain from abusing her.
