A BUSINESSMAN from Chiredzi and a Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services (ZPCS) officer died on the spot when their vehicles collided head-on at the 95km peg along the Ngundu-Tanganda Road.

Masvingo police spokesperson Inspector Charity Mazula said the accident occurred on Monday at around 5AM.

Insp Mazula identified the deceased as Augustine Nyikadzino, 50, of Tongaat Hullet and Taruona Ndava, 37, of ZPCS Chiredzi.

She said the bodies were taken to Chiredzi Hospital mortuary for postmortem.

"I can confirm receiving a report of an accident which claimed a Tongaat Hullet worker and businessperson and a ZPCS officer. The two vehicles were involved in a head-on collision and they both died on the spot. They were trapped in the wreckages of their extensively damaged vehicles," said Insp Mazula.

She said Nyikadzino was driving a Nissan Hardbody vehicle while Ndava was driving a Mazda Demio.

Both drivers had no passengers on board.

Insp Mazula said Ndava allegedly encroached into Nyikadzino's lane resulting in the collision.

She said the damaged vehicles were taken to Chiredzi's Vehicle Inspection Department (VID) for inspection.
