A Beatrice traditional healer (77) has been arrested for allegedly assaulting four men believed to have stolen money from a shop in the district.
Mashonaland East police spokesperson Inspector Bulasiwe Bhebhe confirmed the case.
According to police, Tapiwa Mapfunda (31), Terrence Mtandwa (27), Tapiwa Chitukuto (25) and Dominic Muchochoma (25) were drinking beer at Mr Peter Bangwe's tuckshop at Walmer Farm.
Mr Bangwe went to bathe and returned later to find the cash box missing. Instead of reporting the matter to police, he consulted the traditional healer known as "Mbuya Nhondo", who allegedly went to the tuckshop immediately. She allegedly boiled water in a clay pot and forced the suspects to dip their hands into the water five times.
The suspects reported the matter to the police after sustaining burns which were later treated at Chitungwiza General Hospital. Nhondo is in police custody, assisting with investigations.
