Kasukuwere allegedly imposing probe of local authorities

Harare Residents Trust has claimed that the Ministry of Local Government, Public Work and Local Housing is imposing probe teams on Local Authorities.

"The investigating teams are supposed to be paid by the Local Authorities being investigated. There is a report that recently the investigation team was at Council for less than two weeks to investigate Council handling of funds and should be paid $186 000 from Harare rate payer's funds," said the trust. "This is totally unacceptable. If the local Government Ministry is keen to investigate any Local Authority in Zimbabwe, the Ministry must make available the funds to pay the probe teams, and not just force Local Authorities to pay unbudgeted funds to these unnecessary probe teams."
