$100 fine for assaulting sister's ex-boyfriend

ASSAULTING his sister's ex-boyfriend for dumping her saw a Dangamvura man being fined $100.
James Jakachira (24) of House Number N461B, Area C, Dangamvura last week appeared before senior Mutare magistrate, Mrs Sekai Chiundura pleading guilty to assault charges. The court heard that Jakachira and six other accused persons who are still at large assaulted George Mbatanika (45), while accusing him of dumping his sister.
Prosecuting, Mr Fletcher Karombe, said on February 19, at Villa Spot Club, Jakachira teamed up with his six colleagues and approached Mbatanika demanding that he should buy them beer. He turned down the request.
"Jakachira approached Mbatanika together with his friends saying he should buy them beer before accusing him of dumping his sister. Mbatanika was in love with Jakachira's sister before breaking up with her. Mbatanika refused to buy them beer and a misunderstanding arose between them. Jakachira assaulted Mbatanika with fists several times all over the body. He sustained painful teeth, ribs and head," said Mr Karombe.
In defence, Jakachira said the complainant had provoked him.
