Mugabe leaves for India

President Robert Mugabe has left Harare for India where he will join political leaders, former heads of state as well as religious leaders from across the globe at the World Culture Festival to be held in New Delhi.

President Mugabe, who is accompanied by Foreign Affairs Minister Simbarashe Mumbengegwi, Presidential Spokesperson Mr George Charamba and senior government officials, will join heads of state, former political leaders as well as religious leaders, artists and peacemakers from over 155 countries who are expected to converge in New Delhi, india for the cultural festival.

The global movement known as the World Cultural Festival was founded in 1981 by a philanthropist, Sri Ravi Shankar and this year's celebrations will showcase the art of living and commemorate 35 years of service to humanity, spirituality and human values.

Sri Ravi Shankar has played a key role in mediating several conflict situations and extending support in times of need across the globe.

President Mugabe is expected to take advantage of the visit and take up issues that were discussed with the Indian business community during the Africa India Summit held in  last year.

Mugabe is also expected to attend the Global Leadership Forum, which will be co-hosted by the World Forum of Ethics in Business and the Art of Living Foundation.

Kingstons bookstores, a parastatal that falls under the Ministry of Information, Media and Broadcasting Services is in negotiations for a possible partnership with the Indian book industry and President Mugabe's visit to the Asian nation is anticipated to bolster the deal.

On his departure, President Mugabe was seen off at the Harare International Airport by Vice Presidents Emmerson Mnangagwa and Vice President Phelekhezela Mphoko, cabinet ministers, service chiefs and several government officials.
