A WOMAN from Chivi died after being struck by a bolt of lightning while coming from a church service, police confirmed.
Marvelous Makusha, 23, of Miti Village under headman Madyangove, was struck by lightning after sheltering under a tree from the rains.
Acting Masvingo police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Kudakwashe Dehwa said the incident occurred at about 5PM on Friday at Ravi Business Centre.
"I can confirm receiving a sudden death report due to lightning. A bolt of lightning allegedly struck a woman who was coming from a church service at Ravi Business Centre in Chivi. The body was taken to the hospital mortuary and is awaiting a post-mortem," said Asst Insp Dehwa.
On the fateful day, Makusha allegedly left her home for a prayer meeting at Runyararo Apostolic Church with other female congregates at around 1PM.
"At around 5PM, they (congregates) dispersed for home. Upon reaching Ravi Business centre towards Miti Village, it started to rain and Makusha took refuge under a tree. She was then struck by lightning," said Asst Insp Dehwa.
He said when villagers arrived at the business centre, the woman was already dead.
Asst Insp Dehwa said Makusha was frothing at the mouth with her tongue protruding.
Villagers tried in vain to administer first aid.
