112 illegal diamond panners arrested in Chiadzwa

112 people have been arrested in the diamond area of Chiadzwa in two days as police up their game in dealing with illegal diamond panners.
The joint operation was carried out by the police in collaboration with Mbada Diamonds security, who were ordered back on the mine by the High Court to secure their assets.
The two-day operation saw people being arrested for various offences ranging from trespassing.
National police spokesperson, Senior Assistant Commissioner Charity Charamba said the situation is now under control, and warned the public that law enforcement authorities will deal decisively with all forms of malcontents.
All the 112 were released after paying fines.
The problem of illegal diamond mining operations resurfaced after the government banned all diamond mining operations.
Last week, three people died at Chiadzwa when diamond ore collapsed on them as they were carrying out illegal activities.
