A GWERU woman has told a man who attempted to rape her that he must thank her that she stopped him as she is HIV positive.
The woman grabbed Noah Chaza's manhood and shouted for help as they slept at Kudzanayi rank in Gweru with other people, some of whom were waiting to catch long distance buses.
Chaza of Budiriro suburb in Harare, had pleaded not guilty, but was convicted of attempted rape by Gweru Magistrate Musaiona Shotgame.
The magistrate sentenced him to four years imprisonment and suspended one year on condition of good behaviour. The woman told the court that Chaza must thank her because she prevented him from raping her as she has an STI and is HIV positive.
"I saved him the moment I grabbed his manhood and prevented him from raping me. I am HIV positive and I am on treatment and also I have an STI," she said.
Prosecuting, Bernard Nyoni, told the court that on February 2 at around 11PM, Chaza, his victim were sleeping at the rank in Gweru.
Nyoni said Chaza and the complainant were sleeping beside each other.
The court heard that while the woman was asleep, Chaza woke up and got closer to her.
He started fondling her breasts and she pushed his hands off thinking that it was her colleague who had mistakenly grabbed her.
She later realised Chaza was lifting her skirt and his manhood was poking her backside. She shouted for help, said Nyoni.
The matter was reported to the police leading to Chaza's arrest.
