A GUTU man last weekend allegedly gouged out his wife's left eye leading to her death following a domestic dispute over adultery.
Tawanda Vasungwa (29) of Hwiru Township committed suicide by hanging himself after the death of his wife, Neria Mapfumo (24). Masvingo police spokesman Inspector Tineyi Matake yesterday said Mapfumo's body was at Gutu Mission Hospital awaiting post-mortem.
"We are still investigating the matter," he said.
On the fateful day, Vasungwa reportedly went to a beerhall at Mupandawana Growth Point where Mapfumo worked as a bar lady.
He saw her in a car being driven by an unidentified man. Vasungwa chased after the vehicle using his car and ordered the driver to stop. He is said to have taken Mapfumo back to her workplace where he started assaulting. Vasungwa pulled out a knife and gouged out her left eye and she died on the spot. He advised Mapfumo's workmates about her death before travelling to his rural home where he hanged himself from a tree outside the rural homestead in Rupfunde communal lands.
