Investigations into the death of retired army commander General Solomon Mujuru have taken a new twist with police seeking a court inquest to help determine circumstances that led to Mujuru's demise.
Police commissioner General Augustine Chihuri told ZBC on Tuesday that they had now handed over the probe to the courts for an inquest.
An inquest is a judicial investigation in common law jurisdictions, conducted by a judicial officer or a government official. The common kind of inquest includes a medical examination into the cause of a death that was sudden, violent or suspicious or occurred in prison.
This means the remains of Mujuru could be exhumed to establish the real cause of death.
