High Court orders GMB to pay ex-workers

The High Court of Zimbabwe has ordered the Grain Marketing Board (GMB) to pay all its former employees US$350 000 on the 16th of every month until it clears about US$4 million it reportedly owes its ex-employees.
The former GMB workers who were gathered outside the parastatal's head office have gone back to their homes after the High Court implored both parties to resolve the matter by consent.
A statement signed by the Acting GMB general manager shows that after a stalemate with its former workers, the GMB management approached the High Court on an urgent basis to seek an eviction order of the ex-employees.
It was after lengthy negotiations that the parties agreed to sign a Deed of Settlement on Friday 11 March 2016 which was to be made a court order.
The parties agreed that the GMB would pay all its former workers a sum of US$350 000 on the 16th of every month until it clears the salary arrears of every ex-employee.
If the GMB fails to pay the amount as agreed, the ex-employees would approach the court for a writ of execution of property.
It was also agreed that the former employees who were camping outside the GMB head offices would vacate the area upon signing and filing of the Deed of Settlement with the High Court.
In the event that the former employees in future gather for the same cause, the deputy sheriff was authorised to evict them.
