President Robert Mugabe's cash strapped government is seeking $2.2 billion to upgrade the Beitbridge-Harare-Chirundu road, a major highway, as part of a revamp of its ageing roads.
Permanent secretary in the Transport ministry Munesu Munodawafa told a parliamentary portfolio committee on Transport on Wednesday that government has made significant progress in acquiring funds to rehabilitate the main north-south highway, an important regional trade route running from Beitbridge on the South African border to Chirundu on the Zambian border.
