Tout arrested for assaulting cop

A tout who fled after teaming up with the Kombi driver to attacked a traffic police officer wanting to arrest them for offloading passengers at an undesignated point has been arrested and dragged to court as well.
Charles Makuhwa (27) of Emganwini was not asked to plead to the charge of assaulting or resting a police officer when he appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Tinashe Tashaya.
The Kombi driver, Fungai Last Mafuta (42) has since appeared in court facing the same charge.
It is alleged that on February 16 this year at 5:30pm Mafuta stopped the kombi at an undesignated place along Hebert Chitepo Street in Bulawayo offloading passengers.
The police officer Constable Mhlomuli Mathobela in the company of Constable Hardlife Maweni on duty arrived and Mathobela approached Mafuta and told him that he was under arrest for offloaduing at an undesignated place.
Mafuta panicked and tried to drive away in the process hitting a stationed vehicle. After the accident Mafuta and his conductor Makuhwa got out of the kombi accusing Mathobela of causing the accident.
They assaulted Mathobela with clinched fists and booted feet several times. Makuhwa ran away. Mathobela reported the matter to the police leading to Mafuta's arrest.
Makuhwa was arrested on March 5 after 22 days of committing the offence.
