THE love for a quick buck landed a Mutare man in court after he stole 23 female panties from a vendor's locker. Robert Jim (44) pleaded guilty to the theft charge he was facing when he appeared before Mutare provincial magistrate, Mrs Lucie-Anne Mungwari last Thursday.
Mr Brian Goto prosecuted.
Responding to the charge, Jim said he had stolen the goods because he wanted to get a quick buck.
"Your Worship, I erred. I wanted to earn a living since my family of six children and wife depend on me for their livelihood. If you spare me jail, I will never repeat it again because I have learnt my lesson," he begged.
It was the State's case that Jim stole 23 female panties, six T-shirts, 25 skin tights, three pairs of female shoes, pairs of jean trousers, jackets, tennis shoes and two wrappers from Patricia Marima's locker at the Clock Room after Marima had gone to South Africa.
Said Mr Goto: "When Marima came back and discovered that her goods were missing she made a police report. Police received a tip-off to the effect that Jim had stolen the goods.
"Jim was caught red-handed at the Meikles Park Flea Market selling the stolen goods. He admitted to have stolen them," said Mr Goto.
Jim was remanded in custody to Wednesday for sentencing.
