TEN people died in separate road traffic accidents countrywide since Good Friday while 55 were injured, police said yesterday.

National police spokesperson Senior Assistant Commissioner Charity Charamba confirmed the deaths, saying eight people died during the same period last year while 126 were injured. "I can confirm that 10 people died in separate road traffic accidents countrywide while 55 were injured.

"The Zimbabwe Republic Police would like to urge all drivers to continue exercising caution on the roads irrespective of the fact that the country will be having a holiday or not," she said.

"They should abide by all road rules and regulations and not speed in order to safeguard lives." At least 299 vehicles were impounded for various offences in 2015 compare to 298 this year.

In 2015, police recorded 218 accidents, 37 more than this year. This year's Easter holidays recorded a high number of arrests for traffic offences of 20 528 compared to 16 027 in 2015.
